We offer Stornoway minibus hire for small private groups who need to get around.
For groups up to, and including, 12 people, we offer safe and comfortable transportation.
Our comfortable 12 seat minibus is available for hire, with driver. Our Stornoway Minibus Hire operates all across Lewis and Harris with service to the mainland if required. Air conditioned and with seatbelts throughout, our highly trained driver will take you and your group to where you need to be and back again safely. At this time we are unable to offer wheelchair access, we cannot provide infant seating and we do not offer international trips. What's included in my quote?
Providing you have fully detailed your requirements with Stornoway Minibus Hire, a quote will usually include:
- Base day rate (minimum 1 day charge) for the hire.
- A mileage charge.
- The driver costs, including overnighting fees if relevant.
- Ferry charges.
- Parking charges.
- Road tolls.
- Other applicable transportation costs relevant to your request.
Do you transport children?
Stornoway Minibus Hire are happy to accommodate children but they must be able to use a standard seatbelt for their safety. We do not offer infant seats or extra restraints.
Can I detailed my preferred route?
Due to the complexity of road transport, including low bridges, level crossings, busy town streets, LEZ areas, Stornoway Minibus Hire will undertake the route planning for each trip.

Are there any additional payments on top of the minibus hire cost?
At Stornoway Minibus Hire there are some extra payments that may apply to your booking including, such examples, but not limited to:
- Pet transportation
- Road tolls
- Ferry/Train fees
- Parking fees
- Waiting fees
- Driver overnight fees
Additionally, should you violate the terms and conditions there may be other fees including:
- Pet cleaning fees, if your animal fouls the minibus.
- Damage fees, should you or your party damage the minibus in any way.
- Cleaning fees, for example if you or your party spill liquids, food, use cigarettes, e-cigarettes or vapes on the minibus.
Can you accommodate international trips?
Stornoway Minibus Hire do not have a licence to operate internationally so all bookings must be within the UK.
Our Minibus Rules
- Stornoway Minibus Hire do not permit food or drink on the minibus including personal items or take-away items.
- Stornoway Minibus Hire do not permit smoking, e-cigarettes, vaping, consuming of alcohol, consuming of non-prescription drugs, and/or the transportation of anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs on arrival either at the start of the tour or during.
- You will be denied board if you are belligerent or in a state of intoxication of any time and you will be liable for your own transportation from that time, no matter the location you are attempting to board.
How do I make payment?
Payment is made in two instalments. 20% deposit is taken at the time of booking and is non-refundable, unless we cancel, in which case it is fully refundable. The final full payment is due 30 days prior to your booked departure date.
If your booking is made within 30 days of the hire period then you must pay the full balance.
Payment must be made online using any major credit or debit card. Stornoway Minibus Hire do not accept cash payments or bank transfers.
What happens if there are delays or breakdowns?
Delays, traffic jams and breakdowns occur. This is a fact of life. Whilst we will do our best to reroute or get you to your destination on time we will not be liable for any loss or inconvenience that occurs as a result.
Stornoway Minibus Hire are covered by AA recovery, which includes transportation for all our passengers to a safe location where you will be able to arrange onward transportation.
How old do I have to be to hire a minibus?
You must be at least 18 years old and you must be able to pay using a credit or debit card.
What if I miss my pick-up time?
If you are not at your pick-up point and time as agreed with us you will still be charged the full amount of the trip...so please do not miss your times!
This is the case even if you are arriving by flight or ferry. We recommend you purchase travel insurance to cover this eventuality if you think it may happen.
You must contact Stornoway Minibus Hire as soon as possible to discuss any deviations from your planned schedule as the rules on drivers hours may mean we can no longer accommodate your request.
Can I make changes after my deposit has been paid?
Changes can be made but they must be made well in advance of your booked date.
CHANGES CANNOT BE MADE ON THE DAY OF THE HIRE OR DURING THE HIRE.
This is because changed mileage affects the quote price and rules on drivers hours prevent us from being able to calculate legally safe limits at that time.
Cancellations
Cancellation by You
You may cancel your booking at anytime but there are conditions attaching to the amount of refund available as a result of your cancellation:
- Cancellation > 30 days: No refund of initial 20% deposit. All other monies will be refunded excluding any transaction processing fees charged by 3rd parties in connection with the refund.
- Cancellation at 30 days or less: No refund of all monies paid.
Cancellations on Our Part
Whilst rare, there are occasions where Stornoway Minibus Hire have to cancel, and that can even be at the last minute for which we apologise but cannot accept liability for loss or inconvenience on the part of the booker. These can occur when the minibus suffers a mechanical issue, when the driver is unable to perform their duties, when there are 3rd parties preventing us performing our duties e.g. roadworks, DVSA etc.
In the event we have to cancel you will receive a 100% refund excluding any 3rd party fees, such as bank service charges and fees, that you may have occurred in processing your payment.
Is it important to get all my details correct?
It is your responsibility to ensure all your details are correct when you complete the quote form and check the final agreement.
If you have entered wrong dates or times this will count as a failure to be at the pick-up date and time and you will be charged for the full booking whether you were able to use it or not.
Can I take luggage?
We have limited space to accommodate luggage at the rear of the vehicle. Please detail your requirements at the time of booking. A large amount of luggage will impact the number of passengers we can transport. This is due to the space available and the impact on the overall mass of the vehicle.
Can we take pets on-board?
We do transport guide dogs, dogs and other pets if caged.
There is no charge for Guide Dogs.
Other pet carriage, due to space and weight does attract a charge. Please detail your requirements on our booking form.
All dogs (or other large animals) will be be required to occupy a seat, and therefore reduce the number of passengers you can accommodate. For example the bus can take 13 people but if you wish to take one dog then the maximum passengers will be limited to 12 and a seat allocated for your dog or other large animal.
For dogs you must provide a pet-seatbelt which connects to a standard seatbelt. Dogs cannot be untethered during the trip.
When should I book?
People tend to book well in advance of major and important events. Therefore if transport is a critical part of your plan we encourage early booking, potentially up to 1 year in advance but no less than 30 days prior to your required date of departure.
How will I contact the driver?
Once deposits have been paid you will receive confirmation with all the details you will need for your trip.
